For anyone interested, this is my alternate, evolving Myspace habitat:

Ozymandias by Percy Bysshe Shelley

"I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away."

The irony is, Ozymandias's proclamation remained true after his works were obliterated by time.

I waited by the shores of the Star Fountain
Thinking of you
Across the many hills of the Far Mountain
While the day was still new

I waited by the Gates of the King's palace
Before all was lost
I drank the bitter dregs of a fool's chalice
And our lives were the cost

I waited by the light of a grey morning
In a land bare and cold
The robins of the air sang the first warning
In their Song sweet and old

Then I knew that we would share all of Life's Knowing
When you came to me
And we would feel the warmth of the winds blowing
On the Lavender Sea

I went on a beach bum holiday this past weekend! We discovered that November in Florida is often sunny and warm and doesn't burn [livejournal.com profile] rialian's fair skin. We had a wonderful time at the ocean, and got to visit with a dear friend who we had not seen in a while.

I figured I should get something to remember the wonderful time that was had by all... So....

I bought me a Devil Ducky! They come in all different colors, even zebra striped, but I opted for the yellow one with red horns, because it looks almost normal, and so is much creepier.

Unfortunately for me, the packaging of this item has a horrible inscription written on it, probably in the blood of Devil Ducky's victims. I didn't notice what it was until it was too late - I'd already seen it! (agggh!) There was only one thing left to do -- post the inscription on my journal!

You're the One... )

More stuff about Absurd Minds: I looked for the copyright year of Noumenon and could not find it.

They is no copyright notice inscribed on the disk or anywhere in the lyrics booklet.
They have no anti-piracy warnings on their CD, and no dire warnings from the Enforcers of Pathological Lies, Information Suppression, and and Illegal Wiretapping FBI.
The RIAA's marks and "approval" does not appear anywhere on the disk jacket.
They are with Dancing Ferret Disks and are done through an indie outfit.

For these reasons alone, I think I'll go out and buy all their CDs, maybe 2-3 copies... I'd tell the RIAA to eat that as a lesson, but their motivation is info-control and not money so I won't bother.

Some of their lyrics:

A little ditty that popped into my head one afternoon on the way home from work:

They are obliviots
Straight from Oblivia
They could not comprehend
The simplest trivia

They were just standing there
In spandex underwear
They did not seem to care
they had a vacant stare

I almost ran them down
As I drove in to town
They still refused to budge
Their brains had turned to fudge

They were obliviots
Straight from Oblivia
They could not comprehend
The simplest Trivia...

(I feel much better now)...

They found the website I guess, and sent us this in response -

"Song of a lovely dream

I see across the ocean among the seas, a land of green
Where the trees grow high and the waters clean
I see her there, Illihen standing across the seas, beckoning me
To be among the green trees.
But only among Illihen I wish to be
As I sit in the tall, tall trees
For there is where I can dream
Underneath the stars high above the trees
Among my beloved Illihen

It would do me well to hear how my song is cause im just another dreamer who believes in more than this world has to offer.

sincerely,
(person's name)"

Sounds like he or she has English as a second language (odd use of the word 'among'). I wonder if this person is Finnish. Well, probably not, but I wonder... Illihen sounds a little like Yllirien (a comparable land I 'see' sometimes).

Ahhgg. Enough unpleasantness already. I have to start focusing on what I want instead of what I don't want. To this end, a poem by e. e. cummings:

may my heart always be open to little
birds who are the secrets of living
whatever they sing is better than to know
and if men should not hear them men are old

may my mind stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple
and even if it's sunday may i be wrong
for whenever men are right they are not young

and may myself do nothing usefully
and love yourself so more than truly
there's never been quite such a fool who could fail
pulling all the sky over him with one smile

Ships of Sunlight, ships of Cold
Ships of Shadow, ships of Old
Between clear skies and waters green
To lands well-known and lands unseen
Isle of Diamond, Isle of Stone
Forest of Wood, Forest of Bone
Harvest of Fire, harvest of Rain
Up from the ash, laughter again

I just got the daily search activity report for the website, and someone was searching for "trees of light". Please, who are you? Talk to me! What was it you were looking for? I wish I did have a page about "trees of light". Maybe I will...

Edit - Ah it's a Tolkien reference (Telpirion and Laurelin, slain by Melkor in the First Age).. Been a while since I read that - I'd forgotten. No wonder. People are always looking for Tolkien things on the website for some reason.

Still, what a neat concept just by itself, without any references...

"Trees of Light" ...

The Star Trees...

Part tree, part Starlight

Reaching from the blackwaters deep underground

branching out into the night sky,

a silver glow emanating from the transluscent bark...

Small and narrow winds the path
Through which the light may feebly shine
should it ever find its way
inside the deadened prison walls
of finite limitaton
But if the light should find its way
beware the denizens within
for with the shriek of lifeless ones
against the living they will rage
and from the light will hide their eyes
to ease the brightness burning

I was listening to this song just now - It seems that "Sweet William" had a bit of a problem with rejection, to his eventual detriment. For some reason this version seemed hillarious when I heard it.
==========================================================

As we rowed out to Fennario
As we rowed out to Fennario
Our captain fell in love
With a lady like a dove
And he called her by name Pretty Peggy-O.

Oh will you marry me Pretty Peggy-O
Oh will you marry me Pretty Peggy-O
Oh will you marry me
And I'll take you out to sea
To lands far beyond Fennario.

Oh I would marry you Sweet William-O
Oh I would marry you Sweet William-O
Oh I would marry you
But your guineas are too few
And I fear that my mama would be angry-O.

If ever I return Pretty Peggy-O
If ever I return Pretty Peggy-O
If ever I return
All your cities I will burn
Destroying all the lands in the area-o.

Come tripping down the stairs Pretty Peggy-O
Come tripping down the stairs Pretty Peggy-O
Come tripping down the stairs
combing back your yellow hair
The fairest young maid in Fennario.

Sweet William is dead Pretty Peggy-O
Sweet William is dead Pretty Peggy-O
Sweet William is dead
To the fishes he's been fed
In a sea far beyond Fennario.

As we rowed out to Fennario
As we rowed out to Fennario
Our captain fell in love
With a lady like a dove
And he called her by name Pretty Peggy-O.
And he called her by name Pretty Peggy-O.

One warm sunbeam gold and bright
Two green blades of sweet meadow grass
Three song birds in merry, merry flight
Open gate where faeries pass.

Welcome be and welcome stay
Among our woods and homes to play
Faerie pipes with harp entwine
Come, my friends to share our wine

Awaken

This is a poem that was written by someone during an email correspondence - he didn't know he was writing a poem, but when the conversation was complete, it turned out that when I put lines from each of the emails together in one place, they created a wonderful Song of the spirit...

Awaken, by A.

The Mother has been with us in each of our steps...
Let us be as vessels for Her love
and create through Her influences.
One can't mimic Her creations,
But any may be inspired.
May the Mother guide you and Her Light embrace you.
As the sun rules the skies of these days,
Then let us be like the leaves and waters
Which bathe in its warm embrace
And be as the owl who speaks to the stars...
As for understanding what the wood may say to you,
You merely need to listen.
May you hear the forests' low, eternal hum,
And as the seasons change, sing your words to the trees.
So few take the time or know how to any longer.
May the world awaken to the world.

A song

helen99: A windswept tree against a starlit sky (Default)
When Sunlight fades in the twilight glades
As the night is born of the shadow,
And the Wood sings deep to the birds in sleep
While they dream of the breeze in the meadow
Then Dance will I with the stars in the sky
And the stars that shone in their eyes
For the light they weave is the song they leave
That sings to the morning skies
When the newborn day brings the birds to play
by the woodland's water falling
And the Song I hear ever draws me near
To the One whose Song is calling...

A blood old and proud in your veins
The depth of the wood in your heart,
A star's light long ago made its home in your eyes
But keep the stealth of the woodland beings
That you be not confined or consumed
For that which has not, will seek to grasp
And that which is not free cannot abide freedom
Wearing, then, the cloak of the invisible
Unbounded, sing with your people in the forest.

The clear spring laughed in the starlit night
As I walked the path in my hidden wood
To the shadowed grove where the flowers dance
and moonbeams wed with leaf and stream
Far away from the city's light

"Welcome be," said the wood to me,
"Stay and tell what you have seen
For you have traveled round the globe
While tall I stood and deep I delved
But naught of the world of men I see."

Sadly I began my tale,
and told the Wood what I had seen
The woodland listened as I spoke
Rustling softly in the mist,
silver in the moonlight pale.

"Mighty kings of wrath and greed
wage vast destruction in their paths
The streams are dried, the birds have died
The mighty wood is laid to waste
And the gentle creatures bleed.

The dwellers of the ocean deep
have fled their lairs and drowned above
Creatures once of great reknown
Are gone forever from this world
For eternity to sleep"

"Take these seeds," said the wood to me
"Take and plant them where you will
And where you plant, a mighty wood
shall spring anew in the city's heart
Wood and City entwined shall be."

Many seeds in the starlit night
Fell softly from the hidden grove
I gathered all that I could find
To travel with me round the globe
To the city's glaring light

Far away from the hidden wood
I plant a seed from the shadowed grove
So wood and city may entwine
And dwellings wed with tree and stream
where only concrete once had stood.
