http://www.sentientlandscape.com/ -- When I saw this website I literally burst into tears (and I don't do that often).
rialian saw the whole episode and made a valiant attempt to boodle me back to some semblance of sanity. I wrote them a letter detailing how very far away they are from where I live, and asking if they know anyone like them around Maryland. Haven't heard back from them yet. Maybe I should have put something other than "Golly Darn It!!!!" in the subject line...

Date: 2005-08-08 02:28 pm (UTC)Wellp, the price is right anyway, and it's a good location (Better than Oregon, anyway!). Maybe we'll plan to go to the September 3 workshop. There's a free building workshop this Saturday from 9-12 - that price is even better. Hmmm.

Date: 2005-08-08 08:27 pm (UTC)I'll also have to introduce you to my friend Rita Jane when she's in town. She should be back around for the Maryland State Fair and she usually stays at Heathcote while she's in the area. They used to have a booth at Ren Faire but politics being what they are there, they don't anymore. Anyway, she's very good people and I think you and Ri would get along great with her.

Date: 2005-08-08 07:12 pm (UTC)The funniest part was that I asked him to boodle a specific area on the back of my neck which was feeling stressed and strained... So I said, "A little farther down. A little to the left. No, higher." He proceeded to boodle each spot until he finally got the right one. By that time, it finally hit him how weird the scenario was, and he ran out of the room waving his arms and shrieking... So maybe sanity transfer was achieved. Then again, maybe not...

Experiments in Sustainable Urban Living was one of my utter favorites, a delight and an inspiration that filled me with a sense of yearning that left me nodding and pointing *::that!::* -- I'm going to attempt to track down and recompile what information from them I can, for sadly the site's no more. There was so much there!
Articles on their home here and here
The former owners of the property on which I live were so insensitive to the native landscape that they did very silly things to it that seems to have left the land in a sulky, shocked mood. I haven't had the energy to do much to properly return it to what it was and could again be, but urban homesteading always has been and continues to be my goal.
Oh, did Rialian ever pick up a copy of Worms Eat My Garbage?
