... I've learned single, double, and triple crochet, slip stitch, turning stitch, squares, and rounds. Everything still looks amateurish, because, well, it is. But it's becoming inexorably more acceptable, or a reasonable facsimile thereof. This is all very good except...

...When I looked for the Crawling Horror so I could review the beginnings of this endeavor, I couldn't find it. It has disappeared...

Well, I do now that you called it to my attention! (I looked it up and found a good website that explained what a shell stitch was). I've been using the 2 double crochet and 2 treble croshet shells for the purpose of increases when making rounds, but I but didn't know the right term for them until now.

I haven't tried the 3 and up shells yet. I like the way the 5 dc shells look - I might try some of them soon.

I do two together then three and repeat it throughout the work. It makes a lovely and tight stitch that will last. It really looks good with baby stitches too. Delicate and strong at the same time.

What is a baby stitch? Is that done by using a very tiny hook and fine yarn? I just found a beautiful chair throw at a thrift shop that I think had shells made with baby stitches in it (that's what it looks like - I will get a pic when I get a chance).

Anyway, I'll do the two-three pattern next and see how it looks.

You will love it. I think they look so lovely and they are strong too so they will last as long as you could hope for.
