Right now listening to "Juniper" by Noe Venable

Very beautiful song...

I created Kate Bush Radio on www.pandora.com, and added all my favorite music to it. I "trained" the station to (mostly) do my bidding automatically by telling it what I did and didn't like whenever it played something. It learned over time exactly the kind I was looking for. The great thing is, it not only plays stuff I added, but it extrapolates and finds stuff I never heard before. It is now my very favorite radio station...

Ooo now it switched over to "Love takes over me" by Kylie Minogue. Never heard of Kylie Minogue before. I have now...

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] rejoicingapathy for pointing us Pandora-ward...

Eee! "Playboy Mommy" by Tori Amos! been a while since I heard that.

Of course, it assumes that because I like Sigur Ros, that I'll also like Bjork. While I have a lot of respect for the artform that is Bjork, actually listening to her is akin to sitting and listening to a lecture on quantum physics in Martian...

I do to (uh, sort of). In small doses. Or sideways doses. Or something... (mostly or something).

One of the guys at Yahoo music made a post recently about personalized music sites (Pandora was one of them). Since he was one of the creators of Launchcast, he is decidedly biased in favor of the Yahoo music site, but he & various commenters discuss things in some detail.

LaunchCast sounds like a neat alternative with perhaps more versatile capabilities. I don't really need a whole lot of capabilities though - I just want to hear the music to see if I want to buy the CD (just like a radio station), with the added benefit of a no-ad pay option, the ability to browse through the playlist, and a "favorites" option that provides iTunes and Amazon links for each favorite so I can either buy the song or buy the CD. I already have about 20 on my favorites list waiting for a trip to Amazon. My budget is hosed...

Just checking out Pandora now and I really like it. Thanks for the rec!

But you've never heard of Kylie Minogue? How come? She's more famous than Madonna! (maybe only in Australia and Europe though).

It's possible I've heard her but never knew who she was. DC radio stations don't always announce who's playing after a song finishes. They'll generally announce about 10 songs at the same time in rapid succession in between advertising, and I usually miss that when it happens because I change the station immediately whenever an advertisement comes on. I've been depending on things like iuma.com, mp3.com, friends, clubs etc. to find new music but haven't encountered her. Glad I did though!

She's great, a proper disco diva. Not many of those nowadays. (and she's very cute too)
