Not H1N1

I just got back from the doctor. He said I had accute viral gastroenteritis (caused by a family of viruses that include norovirus). He said it was most probably not H1N1, because H1N1 usually manifests with sore throat and upper respiratory congestion and cold-like symptoms, not digestive symptoms. Edit: CDC FAQ says both can occur but respiratory is more likely. Anyway, I asked for the test. The results from that will be back in a few days (or longer - it had to be sent out to a lab). Hopefully going to the clinic won't have exposed me to it. :p

I probably caught this from some bad food. I'll probably have to chuck all meat and sauces now.

That said, this is quite contagious, and not fun.

Oh well. Stuff happens. Just letting people know so they can track vectors and stuff like that. Is Mark feeling better?

Glad to hear he's better. No more extreme temperature spikes here, but not feeling overly perky.

Yikes! Glad it's probably not swine flu.

I hope you can get the vaccinations for both flus if you so choose.

I think there's a shot available for the regular flu. They're working on one for gastroenteritis viruses (not there yet). They also have a limited number of doses of H1N1 vaccine (around 3 million doses - there are 307,505,000 people or more in the US), but according to this article,

"Nearly all those 3.4 million doses will be of the FluMist nasal spray type, which is not recommended for pregnant women, people over 50 or those with asthma, heart disease or several other problems, officials from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned."

Sorry. (both for the illness and the half-pun.)

Feel better.

I'm glad too, but this is the height of our flu season, so going to a clinic at this point was risking exposure, so it's kind of a catch 22 situation. I asked them to put me in a room separate from other people so I wouldn't infect them at least.

Ugh. Gastroenteritis is very definitely un-fun. Feel better soon!

(I live too close to a very large university campus. I dare not hope not to get some fun kind of flu at this point. Here's hoping that whatever I get will be a mild case.)

Maybe not. Well, unless you room with students or caregivers. If you room with students or caregivers like I do, you're at the mercy of your immune system...

Currently there's just one student, but everyone currently here rides the same Metro train all the students ride. And the landlord's interviewing people to fill the vacant space, so there've been students coming through anyway. So yeah.

Back to you: Get well soon! I want to see you guys sometime soonish, preferably sometime when none of us is sick. :-)

Youngest had that once when she was very tiny. We ended up in the pediatrician's office and they had to give her IV fluids. :( Very, not fun. I agree on the quite contagious. It tends to affect everyone in a particular home once one resident contracts it.

May you feel better quickly.

It's dangerous for a baby, because of possible dehydration. I'm glad she was OK! I never drank that much Pedialyte before (and it tasted good, which was very disturbing)...
