So I've caught the flu. Anyone who was around me for the past week or so might want to take immune boosters, get plenty of rest, and avoid extreme temperature changes.

Symptoms included fever (102, now down to 99), Edit: back up to 103.1, then down to 101, then broke the following morning. flu tingles all over, extreme temperature sensitivity (easily chilled), aches all over, and digestive upset. Respiratory not affected so far.

Of all the things I've taken for it (Nyquil at night and aspirin with caffeine in the daytime, cat's claw and white willow bark tea, water, and Pedialyte) the Pedialyte is what worked the best.

So far so good - down from 102 to a steady 99 without aspirin, so hoping for the best. Still a bit of stomach upset, and the 102+ fever sucked a lot, but other than that, nothing serious (so far).

Not enough for my liking. Seeing a doc tomorrow, unfortunately. I hate medical facilities and this is the second time in four months. I wish I had an old fashioned family doctor. I really wish I could find one i can trust. It's not getting that much better (started Friday evening) so I'm suspecting H1N1.

doesnt sound as harsh as yours--no 104. he's had some temps, but nothing that high. also all body pains and chills, followed by being overheated.
and he has stuffy nose etc but that could be allergies, its always the beginning of a new season [or when something new comes into flower] that he gets that...but the achey/temp/alcohol not helping symptoms are not usually part of it..

Oh, I don't have 104 either. 102.6 was as high as it went. If I had 104 I'd be at the emergency room... His sounds a lot like mine. Stomach pain too, don't want to eat much (tried eating some potatoes - that was a mistake, ugh).

Thanks! Well, on the bright side, I get a "vacation" of sorts. My workplace will probably not let me come back for a week due to the pandemic. I rarely use my sick leave, so I have plenty of it.

the Pedialyte is what worked the best.

I am mostly convinced that a majority of cold/flu symptoms are worsened/caused by extreme dehydration. Mucous production uses up a LOT of fluid.

ETA: Hope you feel better soon. I only forgot to say that because my own brainmeats are all flu-addled. O.o

Hurm.. feel better soon! You may want to consider boosting your immune systerm thru this winter, I would say that the wrist and surgery with the new support has played havic with the immune response for now. big huggs~

You're probably right. Though there are a couple of strains of flu going around now to which we have no immunity - I'm thinking it might be one of those. I'll probably get tested for the H1N1 antibody once I'm not contagious anymore.

Or maybe tomorrow morning. Ugh. I was trying to avoid medical facilities because that's a great way to catch H1N1 if this isn't it, but I may have no choice, unless it's considerably better by tomorrow.

Yes I agree, don't wait to go and get seen. Also if it turns out to not be the H1N1 I have seen that the flu shot for it is out, at least around here.

Not sure what I am going to do about that one, I had a horrid reaction to the last flu shot I got, an allergy to eggs, which reminds me I have to do some research to see if I can get any not cultured in eggs.

Go away, flu.

+1 to the idea that the wrist injury and recovery from the surgery might have taken a toll on your immune system. Here's hoping you start feeling better. Pedialyte is fabulous stuff.

It really is good stuff... But like I was saying to someone above, there are a couple of new strains of flu going around now to which there is no effective immunity. There will be once it goes around, but there wasn't until now.. Boosting immunity is a good thing to do for whatever reason, but it may not keep people from getting this.

I probably don't but I have a Rialian and a Safeway a block away from Rockville station... I'm going to see a doctor tomorrow. So far Rialian caught nothing but a very mild cold. Hopefully that was his case of it so he's now immune. Hopefully.

ugh. feel better!

my officemate is home today taking care of his wife, who has it. I am hoping our usually-incompatible schedules means I don't get it on down the line from him. This is the first year since I found out about my immune issues that I'm actually worried :(

I disinfect the kitchen and bathrooms every time I leave Mithlond... except this time (I was too sick). Rialian said he'd do it when he went for his class, but that's on Thursday (too late). The house may be full of viruses, especially the lower bathroom and left bedroom. :(

Right, but Something Else is gastroenteritis (kind of not fun) and is contagious. Probably the viruses will die off without a host after several days. The loft should be ok... Oh wait. I was up there when I was first coming down with it and when I was crawling around the house trying to find somewhere I could get to sleep.

ETA - It should be ok if you use your own bedding - I didn't use the upstairs bathroom.

Sorry to hear you've been sick. Rab and I fought with a respiratory cold/flu all of last week. I'm finally starting to get better, but am still really mucousy, it sucks. The weird thing is Odin is fine and he's usually the Typhoid Odin in our house.

I haven't gotten an actual flu-like anything for years - mostly I get upper respiratory bronchitis type of stuff which is pretty serious in that it can go to pneumonia if not treated, but it's not the flu. I think the last time I had the flu was in the late 80s. This felt a lot like flu due to the fever, but it turned out to be something else altogether. Probably food poisoning. I'm glad to hear Odin is doing well at least. Hope you and Rab continue to feel better.
