Whose great idea was it to have 100+ degree weather in April? This is supposed to be Spring. That means, like, 70-75 degree weather, 80-85 at the hottest. The weather prediction even said 85. The thermometer, however, is reading 100 in the sun, 97 in the shade. I had some hope that maybe things were improving when we had some actual snow this winter, but now I'm not so sure. If this is April, I'm not sure I want to be south of British Columbia in August.

Our house is staying cool w/o A/C, though. We opened the glass doors and turned on all the ceiling fans, so there's this nice breeze. We turned off all the lights and closed the shades on the sunny side. It's about 75-80 indoors.

Yes, yes it is. At least I didn't have 80oF weather in January 2009.

What's odd is, the weather sites all seem to be underestimating the temperature. Yesterday was billed as 85 degrees. Yet my thermometer said 100. Today they said it was to be 72 degrees and cloudy, but when I walked from my car to the office, it was bright, sunny, and probably around 82. I think I'm going to start tracking this to see if maybe the reports are habitually underestimating things...

Mmm, huzzah for a house that stays cool. We're doing well here, mostly, though the second floor is significantly hotter than the first - and the first floor housemate has a TV. Which is on. So we're upstairs.

*grins*

At least it's survivable.

Our second floor has these nifty portholes (shaped just like a ship's portholes) that we can open to create a crossdraft. Of course, said crossdraft works a lot better when the leaves are in and the air is cooler. I have kind of a conflict going on about that. On the one hand you really don't want trees too close to the house (especially if you have a wood stove), because their roots can damage foundations, branches can damage the roof, and bugs use them as handy bridges into the house. Not to mention the fact that a spark from the wood stove could set dry leaves on fire in winter. The same goes for nice, cooling vines that would look so nice on the walls - can't have them, since they're conduits for termites and carpenter ants. On the other hand, there is no better climate control than a nice big tree or a big vine on a trellis. Mer.

Here, have ours. It's been low 60s at best in daytime and mid-40s at night, far too cold for late April.

(Of course, that followed this time last week when it was indeed up in the 80s...)

We were also at 40-60 degrees just last week... The overnight jump from 60 to 100 was typical around here, but still sort of unexpected.

Sounds like a great way to spend a day! As long as there's a large body of water around that I can jump into periodically, I love hot weather...

I enjoyed the times I've gone fishing - it's not happened in a long while, though. My parents loved the beach but my husband doesn't take the sun too well.

I can understand that alright. I wear sunscreen when I have to be out in the sun. Paba free of course as that makes my eyes burn and water if it has paba in it.
