I found a little oak sproutling in my yard

I will photograph it and put it here this evening. Usually they don't survive in my yard - they disappear with regularity. I'm not sure what happens to them. Maybe the ivy chokes them out, or maybe there's something that eats the roots. I'll try putting some mycorrhizal fungi around the base and see if that strengthens it enough to survive. This article: http://www.mycorrhiza.org/leaf.pdf , seems to indicate that mycorrhizal fungi are beneficial to oaks.
