Spikefarm had shown interest in the band, and now that Finntroll really was a band, with several strong musicians, the deal was sealed. The debut album Midnattens Widunder was released in 1999, containing nine tracks of advanced trollish metal which affected the black and folk metal scene for good. For their new album "Jaktens Tid" Finntroll wanted to add some joik, so they contacted Jonne, who's a member of the Finnish Joik/Metal-band Shaman. The collaboration with the trolls and Jonne went so well, that Finntroll decided to ask Jonne to do live shows with them too. So now, "Jaktens Tid" will be unleashed sooner than you think, and the Finntroll will once again be ready to strike down the followers of the christian plague, both by stereo and by performing live…

This makes me happy...

The phrase "Finnish Joik/Metal-band" makes me happy. Especially as I have some of their music from freakscout and "folk metal" just isn't explanation enough.

I'm not sure what language this is, but it isn't the same language that appears in my book... Maybe the Trolls speak a different Finnish dialect...

Here's the translation that I was able to come up with, with complete disregard for tenses since I don't know them yet...

Aamund ja Kettil,
(Aamund and Kettil)

Now granted my tenses, cases, etc., are nonexistent, but the root words would probably be the same. This sounds very different from all the words in the Finntroll song (none of which parsed at finnhun.com)... So I wonder what language that is..

After looking at samples of both Finnish and Swedish, I have decided that if I was a Troll, I would definitely speak Swedish. First, it sounds more gutteral and orcish, so I could growl more effectively in it. Second, the Swedes conquered Finnland for a short time, which is in keeping with Troll lifestyle. In fact, I think they were motivated to overrun Finland because Finnish has too many words over 9 syllables.

That said, a lot of joiking is done in a language called Sami, which is neither Finnish nor Swedish. It belongs to the Sami people, who preceded the Finns and Swedes in that area. They span several national boundaries. Purportedly they live in inacessible areas where they joik, herd reindeer, and speak a secret language.
