And thus I figured out how to efile my taxes. The linux box didn't want anything to do with taxes. It's a Fun Machine, a riotous party of music, color, free code, and programs that have everything in the 'wrong' place (which, as one gets used to the environment, becomes the 'right' place). The world of open source knows not of taxes. There are some tax programs out there for Debian but none that I could find that include stock dividend reporting forms. Then again, I didn't look for them very hard because ... Fun Computer didn't want them.
But, as always, my old 200 MHz came to the rescue. "I'll do all the work and let Fun Computer over there have all the fun", it grumbled, then sprang to life and served me well as ever. Taxes done. Refund forthcoming. Fun Computer energetically unscathed by the downside of commerce. Drudge Computer remains a bitter, reliable little thing in its allotted corner upstairs, waiting until the next time...
