Better than a meme or quiz, not as good as an update...



This one was surprising in that someone actually searched for stuff that really is on the site.
However, they will not find pictures of naked people by searching on "nude". They won't even find them by searching on Cthulhu, even though we have those (they're not online anywhere as far as I know)...

Also, we have no "elf religion" on the site and never plan to. What the hell is "elf religion"? That's like saying "human religion" (and there are thousands of those). Different elves have different ways of approaching deity, ranging from devotion/worship to "working with the gods" to "I'm going to kick the asses of the gods because they suck". There is no "elf religion". There may be subgroups who devote themselves to the service of or companionship with a particular goddess or god but it usually doesn't extend outside the tribe.

I don't even want to venture a guess at why someone searched for "reolo". The only search hits I got for that one on Google was a gay porn star called Tony Reolo...

Someone was looking for Telerin, the sea elves' language in tolkien's books (not very commonly mentioned). Unless they meant Tularin.

Yeah, I recognised Telurian, go figure... From LotR, most of the Sindarins came from Tellurian stock.

Maybe "elf religion" is kind of like "jedi religion." Remember when there was this survey (UK? Australian?) a few years ago, and in the question about religion a bunch of people put "jedi?"

Its not the first time there has been a claim of elven religions... remember "Ibram international"? Currently, there's also something called the Calyr Elves Church which is apparently receiving some attention from newbies. www.calyr.org I don't know much about it.

I don't mind the term, "Elven religions". "Elven" implies "of elves" and "religions" implies more than one religion. (religions of elves). "Elf religion" on the other hand, implies to me that the person thinks there's only one religion that, as an elf, he or she should adopt (so they can be more of an elf).

I react to the feel of the Calyr site in much the same way as I react to the phrase, "Elf Religion." I think it might be something that one person or small group of people came up with based either upon memory, gaming, or their own feelings about things. Whatever works for them is fine, but I'm sure a lot of newbies will think, "oh, if I'm an elf (want to be an elf), this is the religion for me." Then they might try to fit into something rather restrictive and demanding which may not fit them at all.

Sorry, "elven religions" was my term, and probably without needed connotations. Ibram, if you'll remember, was billing itself as "the religion of the elves", so it suffered from the same problem you describe. And yes, newbies get drawn to these groups a lot.

It's weird that they do. It's almost as if they're looking for a deeper meaning to wrap themselves in instead of exploring who they are.
