I liked this rendition of Merlin and Nimue a lot for some reason.

Maybe it's Merlin's come-hither, Baryshnikov-like presentation or his oddly obsessed expression, or maybe it's Nimue's thin, studious, non-obvious allure. I don't know - but I like it.

Pre-Raphaelites for the win! That's one of my favorites.

Here's a site that shows more of the detail (click the Image Viewer link to see the larger image).

That's great. I think the look in Merlin's eyes is priceless.

I think he's pretty hot, actually... I was glad to finally see him shown that way. Merlin is more often shown as a stereotypical old man with white hair. Even in Excalibur, in which he was shown as younger, he wasn't that attractive.

Beautiful piece! I love the pre-raphaelites.

This (http://www.artsforge.com/gallery_new/portraits/merlin.html) piece by Alan Lee is another of my favorite depictions of Merlin. Tried to find a larger one that would do the detail work justice but no luck.

Very nice. I love Alan Lee... This one is probably more realistic, considering the time and atmosphere when he lived..

Yes, I love the emphasis he placed on the druidic aspect. This is very close to how I picture Merlin.

I also prefer more youthful depictions of him, like in the Burnes-Jones piece. The pre-raphaelites were great at bringing forth the lushness and the romance attached to the legends. I've got a book of JW Waterhouse's work that I page through for inspiration now and again :) (Of course, I've got a shelf full of artistic books of varying kinds..)
