Zombie Bathroom
Aug. 26th, 2005 03:40 pmAs some may have heard, I have dryrot in the bathroom. I had tried to remove some loose tiles to replace them and remortar/regrout, only to find out that underneath the loose tiles, carpenter ants had made swiss cheese out of the wall joists... (It had no doubt been going on for longer than I'd initially thought). It looks and smells, um, dead, and pieces of wall were sort of disintigrating and falling off when I touched them. The insulation had turned into dirt, populated with little ants. The smell was reaching out as if to sort of consume me. Hence, my bathroom had become... a Zombie Bathroom.
Once I became aware of this, there followed the task of obtaining fundage for the job. Financing has come through (yay, sort of - I hate financing anything).
Concurrently I had to find someone reputable to do the job. After interviewing four contractors, I found one who seems decent, checked his references, and hired him. So let's see - it's the 26th today, and the contractor said he'd get started the beginning of September. That's next week. I hope he sticks to that...
Meanwhile I've ordered 25 pounds of boric acid to stop the dryrot and kill the ants that poured out of the wall when I first opened it up. Since that time, they've visited the inside of the house periodically, and I'm told that boric acid gets rid of them.
But the real reason is, I want to taxidermy my zombie bathroom with the boric acid to prevent further decomposition and loss of body parts...
