Nice day at the ren fair

helen99Today we finally made it to the ren fair to hear the bagpipes on Scottish weekend. We ended up spending a lot of money, as usual whenever we go there. We each bought a pair of new moccasins from http://www.medievalmoccasins.com/ - we got basic black for every day use and I left my old ones there for repair. rialian will be ordering a pair of ... bright purple. Yes, that's right, bright, living, UV-radiating, purple. We're going to order those as soon as we can afford them... Rialian also got a new wavy flamberge knife and some books on pre-1500s faerie lore. We met two cool friends there and hung out for a time. Yay friends.

They come in whole sizes, but if you want a half size, you can order "custom". I ordered 8-1/2 for my mother, and she wears them constantly - she's 86 and had been having trouble with unsteady ankles, so I wanted her to wear high-tops with an inner-sole for plenty of support. She hasn't reported any unsteadiness since wearing them.
They're expensive, but worth it to me - the basic black is not very noticeable when worn with slacks, and I wear them to work. They're guaranteed for life - if the soles need regluing, they can be mailed to their store in Texas, and they will do repairs for free. Every several years, they will need resoling (depending upon how much they're worn), and then they can be mailed back and they'll do that for a small fee.

Got me a new CD today. Spirit flutes. Its Native American and totally lovely.
