It snowed here last night - not a whole lot, but enough to stick on all the leaves. It was supposed to do this in January, not NOW. Geeze. I already planted the berry bushes last week, thinking it would stay warm after that - one of them was starting to flower. The two kiwis were starting to bud too. Now I hope they make it.

===The kiwis should be fine, as they are a hardy variety...(smiles) Snows this late in the season are to be expected, and most plants will be fine. The problem is when there are serious warm snaps in January or February.

Wellp, I hope so. I want to go get some trellises for them tomorrow. I wish I was better at building stuff, but I"m not, so I'll try to find something suitable. The trellises should also serve to protect them too.

Anyway, one of the things about my yard is, only the tough survive, and then only if the yard likes them. They should do great though, since there are an abundance of mycorhizal fungi around.

By the way, the daffodills that you planted for me on either side of the front gate are starting to come up. I hope they survive the cold snap. Thank yoo! I lovvy thee!

Believe it or not, that lovely little norther is heading down this way and staying a lovely little norther. They're forecasting sleet possibly mixed with snow over the weekend. Down here. Nope, THAT'S not unusual. LOL

Nice. I think the seasons are precessing as the magnetic field slowly flips.
Australia will have nothing on us.

*laughs* Texas weather is notoriously unpredictable anyway, but this far south, even this is most unusual. Watching the changes in atmosphere, temperature, and other earth activity is fascinating. Actually, I've got a daily email update of all the earthquake activity above a certain magnitude (I think it's 4.5 or 5.5 or something, at least in my emails), sent out by the USGS (for reference: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/ens/ and http://earthquake.usgs.gov/ ). It's fascinating to watch the ebb and flow of seismic activity. It was actually quite heavy during the hurricane season that brought on Katrina and Rita (I remember because that's about the time I signed up for the notification service. Well, that and I wasn't deleting them at the time-- They have all the pertinent information in the subject line and there got to be a flood of them in my inbox), died down a bit, and now is becoming active again (mostly in the area that's been in the news regarding tidal waves...)

No snow here (damn it! LOL) but it's quite chilly, like what one would expect from a typical winter day in this city.

Budding trees

They may make it. Did you cover them with a cloth? Sometimes the trees do make it if it gets really cold after you have planted them. I think it is something to do with the amount of light they get during the day. Other times they will make it but you will not get fruit on them that year. So time will tell on that one. It is the same here. it was frigid cold yesterday and a lot of the green things were lying flat today. I think that cold just zapped them a good one. They may yet make it though.

The green thumb has spoken.

I haven't done any of the above, because I am an ignoramus. Thanks for all the tips.

No you are not an ignoramous, you just were never told you could do that. In Iowa we can at times have frost in spring after things have started coming up, and they announce it right on the weather forcast. That is the only reason I knew that. Hope it will help you in the future.
