A couple of days ago I ran across this site - http://www.mignonfaget.com/news/20050919.htm and learned that the fleur-de-lys is actually the symbol of New Orleans. I never knew that before. I remember that symbol was branded on the villaness in "The Three Musketeers" so I thought it was a symbol for criminals. Then later I found out that also appears on some of the Coats of Arms in France and Britain, so it represents nobility (who also may be criminals for all I know!) Anyway, seems like a sort of fitting symbol for New Orleans, since the city has sort of been considered the "priestess-whore" of cities, in a way, so a confusing symbol works for it... I wish I'd known that before when I threw the costume together - I could have cut one out of paper and pasted it somewhere on the costume.
