Jul. 12th, 2005 10:28 amThis is a very ancient poem - I must have written it around 1993 (but I'm no good with dates, so that's just a guess). Originally it was written for a man whose soulmate relationship just didn't work out (as is often the case with soulmate relationships), and though he loved her more than his own life, he'd probably never see her again except in passing. But then as time passed, the poem came to mean a lot of other things - it could apply to anyone's relationship really. Most times I view it as someone searching for the Spirit of the Breathing Land, the Mother, the Star Lady. But it could also apply to anyone separated by death or circumstance (or the Sundering Sea) from loved ones.
Lady Fair
Oh silver wind that crosses over ocean, wood and snow
Keep watch upon my wandering heart
For my lady fair will carry it wherever she may go
And it's not been mine since we did part
I see her in the morning mist that rises to the sun
And in life's song I hear her speak
Always I will find her there as long as time may run
For she's the one my heart will seek
May the many paths I walk by day and dream by moonlit night
Guide me as I move my feet
To the ancient crossroads where in Heaven's light
I and my lady fair once more will meet.
