Erlich, Governor of Maryland, has resurrected the dead Intercounty Connector (which the people don't want - they've blocked it over and over). The war on the environment really doesn't take no for an answer.

This superhighway would crash through state parks, wreaking devastation in its path. Why? because people refuse to use birth control so their population has exploded exponentially, they refuse to car pool because for the most part they can't stand each other, they won't use public transportation, and they won't telecommute - so they gun down my parks. If I have anything to say about this (and admittedly I have about as much effect on this kind of thing as an anemic gnat) the Inter County Connector will not happen.

No, no, it will not.

Of course, that's the small scale - worse things are happening all over:

Off to make a few phone calls, send a few emails.

Somehow autumn and winter feel more "oaklike" to me than the months from midwinter to midsummer. But according to this story, now is the time of the Oak King. Of course, Holly doesn't feel like it belongs in the waxing year either.

I'm not sure what tree I'd place in the waxing year. The Cherry tree, probably. I think the cherry tree is it. My guess is that on this continent the trees in the yearly cycle may vary somewhat from the traditional set...
